Gorakhpur Zoo is becoming a graveyard for animals, questions raised over the continuous deaths.

Gorakhpur. Gorakhpur Zoo is now becoming a graveyard for animals. Seven large animals have died in the past few months, raising serious questions about the zoo management’s functioning.

After the death of tigress Melanie on Wednesday, zoo staff held a condolence meeting to pay their respects. However, this was not the first death. According to reports, seven large animals have died so far this year. Tiger Kesari, rescued from Pilibhit in March, was the first to die. This was followed by the death of female wolf Bhairavi on May 5, tigress Shakti on May 7, and leopard Mona on May 8.

A cockatiel bird died on May 23, while lion Bharat, brought from Etawah Lion Safari, also died on October 5. Now, the death of tigress Melanie has put the zoo administration in the dock.

These frequent deaths raise questions about whether the zoo is neglecting the care and health checks of the animals. Experts say that the deaths of so many animals in such a short period of time are not normal.

Local residents and environmentalists have demanded a high-level investigation into the zoo’s ongoing deaths to uncover the truth and prevent such incidents from recurring.
