new Delhi. No toll tax will be levied on National Highways (NH) before 60 kms soon. By the coming year 2024, the roads of India will be like American roads. These things were assured by Minister Nitin Gadkari while replying to the discussion in Lok Sabha on budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. He said that all the tok nakas with a distance of less than 60 km would be abolished. He said that within the next two years, the prices of electric vehicles will be at par with diesel and petrol vehicles.
During the discussion in the House, most members of the ruling party and the opposition praised the work done during Gadkari’s tenure in the field of roads and highways and gave many suggestions for improvement.
Leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party in the House, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, questioned the government figures, describing the road construction as part of the continuous efforts made by the previous governments. Responding to this, Gadkari said how during the UPA government road projects worth Rs 3 lakh 75 crore were stuck and his efforts saved banks from becoming NPAs of Rs 3 lakh crore. He said that in the last seven years, India has set four world records in road construction.
Gadkari said that roads continue to be the main mode of transport in the country and 90 percent of the passengers and 70 percent of the goods are transported by road. With this, the importance of roads in the development of the country can be understood.
