Murmu got a total of 6 lakh 76 thousand 803 votes, while the same opposition candidate Yaswant Sinha got 3 lakh 80 thousand 177 votes. Cross voted in favor of NDA candidate.

The final counting of votes for the fourth round was held in the Parliament House Complex. After which it was announced that Murmu was elected. Elected President Murmu will now take oath as the country’s next President on July 25 in the Central Hall of Parliament House. The term of the current President Ram Nath Kovind is ending on July 24 midnight.

The split in the opposition parties during the election campaign resulted in Murmu getting more votes than the NDA and the total number of parties supporting him. Murmu garnered more than two-thirds of the total votes and Sinha could not even bag all the opposition votes. It is known that in the elections held on July 18 for the 15th President of the country, MPs and MLAs exercised their franchise. This was the 16th presidential election in the country in which 98.9 percent of the 4,796 MPs and MLAs who were included in the voter list had cast their votes. In many states, the legislators of opposition parties had voted in favor of Murmu irrespective of the party line. It is said that eight MPs were absent from voting. Sources said 17 MPs from opposition parties have cross-voted in support of Murmu.
